Artist Bio

Ms. McCrosson has a BFA from the University of Utah with a minor in creative writing. Art serves two purposes in her practice. One is speaking, the other is listening. Working on her own paintings is like speaking. Her creative work with others is like listening.

McCrosson's work catalogs technical exploration. Her abstract work is influenced by the German Expressionists, Surrealists, and Color Theorists. Her surreal work is related to storytelling and is related to the characters and plots that enter her imagination. Because her influences are broad the viewer is asked to consider the complexities of what they are looking at.

McCrosson also uses art to process and understand the human condition. Her community work includes shows and programs in collaboration with other artists, to engage public thought and participation. This sense of community informs her artistic vision. Context and content are interactive in her art, and in her life.

She has had many solo shows in Colorado, Utah and California, and has been part of many juried shows. She has curated, arranged, and presented many shows in the Colorado area for emerging artists. Her work is part of private collections, and it has inspired art purchasers to begin collecting.

Honey Dreams the world

I often work against the idea of style. For instance, I might combine pastoral photo references with painting techniques inspired by animation. A cinematic-like scene can be the backdrop for a machine drawn like a cartoon. Sometimes, digital media is the influence for a section of a painting that is put together like a collage.
